Hair Mesotherapy
What Is It?
Hair mesotherapy means delivering mixtures of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and growth factors that nourish the hair root into the scalp with very fine needles. The mixture reaches the layer where the follicle sits directly. That is what sets it apart from supplements taken by mouth.
Tissue has cells responsible for repair, and I compare them to builders. Mesotherapy is like telling these builders, “Come on, lads, get to work, and here, use this brick, use this cement.” In other words, we hand them the materials. The cell can already carry out a certain amount of repair, and we try to help it do that repair with good-quality materials. This also supports circulation in the scalp and the conditions in which the follicle works. That is where it differs from PRP. PRP works with growth factor signals obtained from your own blood, while in mesotherapy the content comes from outside and is standardised. The two can be alternatives to each other, and they can also be used in rotation within the same plan.
How Is It Done?
First we establish the type of hair loss and request blood tests where needed. We do not choose the content without looking at things such as iron, thyroid and vitamin D. Whether the scalp is oily, and whether there is dandruff or eczema, also guide our choice of mixture.
We cleanse the scalp before treatment. We deliver the mixture with very fine needles through evenly spaced points, a very small amount at each point. Anaesthesia is usually not needed. A session takes 15 minutes on average. We usually build the plan as 6-8 sessions at weekly or fortnightly intervals, followed by maintenance.
Who Is It For?
It suits patients whose hair is thinning, whose shedding has increased or whose scalp looks lifeless. It is often chosen as support at the change of seasons and after childbirth. In patients who have had a hair transplant, we can also plan it to support both the transplanted and the existing hair.
In completely bald areas where no follicles remain, we do not expect new hair to grow; that picture is a matter for a hair transplant. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection, eczema or an open wound on the scalp, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled chronic illness and known allergy to the ingredients of the mixture all change the plan.
Process & Recovery
Assessment
We look at the type of hair loss and the condition of the scalp, and request blood tests if needed. We set the mixture and the session rhythm on that basis.
Session day
We cleanse the scalp. We deliver the mixture through evenly spaced points, a very small amount at each one. The session takes 15 minutes, and anaesthesia is usually not needed.
First 24 hours
There is mild redness and stinging at the entry points, which passes quickly. Wash your hair the next day. Pools, sauna and intense exercise are put off too.
Through the series
Sessions continue at weekly or fortnightly intervals. The first thing patients usually notice is fewer strands left in the brush and in the shower.
End of series and maintenance
When the series ends, we compare photographs. We plan maintenance sessions to keep the gain, and set the interval according to the type of hair loss.
Results & Duration
The first difference is usually less shedding. The number of strands left in the brush and in the shower drops around the middle of the series. Because of the way the hair cycle works, months have to pass before newly growing strands add to visible density.
Keeping the gain depends on maintenance. If there is an ongoing cause behind the loss (genetic predisposition, iron deficiency, thyroid), mesotherapy does not remove that cause; it keeps up the support. So when you stop the treatment, your hair goes back to its own course.
What Is Not Promised
Hair mesotherapy does not count as a hair transplant, and it does not grow hair where no follicles remain. It does not stop genetic hair loss or change the genetic make-up of the hair strand.
We make no promise of a particular density, a fixed number of sessions or a duration. If the series is left half-finished, the expected support is not obtained either. The result varies with the type of hair loss, when you start and whether the underlying cause is being dealt with.
Key Benefits
- Less shedding
- Hair strength
- Voluminous hair
“We have been using mesotherapy and PRP for hair for years, and when patients keep going, they pay off. The real difficulty is completing the series. People with jobs find it hard to keep coming regularly, and at some point they stop.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How does hair mesotherapy differ from PRP?
PRP works with growth factor signals obtained from your own blood. In mesotherapy the content is a standardised mixture that comes from outside. They can be alternatives to each other, and they can also be used in rotation within the same plan.
How many sessions are needed?
We usually plan 6-8 sessions at weekly or fortnightly intervals, followed by maintenance. The rhythm depends on the type of hair loss.
When will I notice a difference?
The first change is usually fewer strands falling out, around the middle of the series. A difference in density takes months.
Is it painful?
Not really. We use very fine needles and a very small amount at each point, so the stinging is brief. Anaesthesia is usually not needed.
Can I wash my hair after a session?
You can wash it the next day. We advise against pools, sauna and intense exercise on the same day.
Can it be done after a hair transplant?
Yes. We can plan it to support both the transplanted and the existing hair. We decide the timing according to how the scalp is healing after the transplant.
Are blood tests needed?
We request them if needed. We do not choose the content without looking into the cause of the shedding. Iron, thyroid and vitamin D are things we come across often.
Will shedding increase if I stop?
Your hair goes back to its own course. The treatment keeps up the support for as long as it continues, and the underlying process goes on regardless. That is why we plan maintenance.
