Jawline Filler

Duration15 min Effect12-18 months Sessions1 session(s)

What Is It?

Jawline filler means placing hyaluronic acid filler at selected points along the jaw to sharpen the border of the lower face. We don’t make the chin bigger. We bring out the transition between the lower face and the neck, and with it the oval of the face.

A blurred jawline isn’t always about weight or age. In some of my patients the chin tip and the angle of the jaw sit back from birth. In others, even the bones thin with age, the support decreases and the tissue slides down. The plan is different for each. In one we support a structure that is missing, in the other we put back support that has been lost.

How Is It Done?

First we look at your face from the front and from the side. We assess the chin tip, the angle of the jaw (gonial angle) and the line between them separately. The angle between the neck and the jaw, the fat under the chin and your bite also come into it, because they decide how defined the result can be.

We draw the jawline with a pen and mark it. At the support points on the bone we use a firmer product, and along the line a more fluid one. We work with a cannula or a fine needle. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes on average. At the end we check the symmetry from the front and in profile.

Who Is It For?

We offer it to patients whose jawline is blurred, whose lower facial border looks indistinct from the side, or whose mild double chin comes from a lack of volume. Men’s and women’s skeletons have different angles. In men we plan a wider, more angular line; in women, a softer and more continuous curve.

If the look under the chin comes mainly from fat, filler alone isn’t enough, and we first talk about a different approach. If the lower jaw protrudes markedly or there is a bite problem, we recommend an orthodontic or surgical assessment. We don’t treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection in the area, in bleeding disorders or in uncontrolled autoimmune disease.

Process & Recovery

  1. Consultation

We talk about your expectations and medical history and note any treatments you use regularly. We take photographs from the front and the side and decide together on the line we are aiming for.

  2. Treatment day

We cleanse the area and leave the topical anaesthetic cream on for 15-20 minutes. We draw and mark the jawline, then treat the points we planned. It takes 15-30 minutes on average.

  3. First 48 hours

Redness and mild swelling appear at the needle points, and bruising is possible. On the first day we ask you to stay away from heat, strenuous exercise and alcohol, not to press on the area and not to sleep face down.

  4. First two weeks

The swelling goes down, the product settles into the tissue and the line takes shape. What you see in the first days isn’t the final look, so we don’t assess the result before this period is over.

  5. Review

We ask you back at the end of the second week. We look at the symmetry and the transitions and plan a small top-up if needed.

Results & Duration

You notice the line becoming more defined right after the treatment. The final look becomes clear once the swelling settles, in about two weeks on average. How long it lasts depends on the product we use, the amount, how much the area moves and your metabolism. The range generally reported for hyaluronic acid fillers is 12-18 months.

The effect fades over time and needs renewing. The jawline moves constantly when you chew and talk. So renewal may be needed sooner than in areas that move less.

What Is Not Promised

Jawline filler doesn’t replace a facelift. It doesn’t gather up advanced sagging skin or melt the fat under the chin. It doesn’t change your bone structure or correct a bite problem. When you gain or lose weight, the look changes too.

We don’t promise a particular profile or duration. We discuss openly at the consultation how much difference it can make to your facial proportions. If your expectation doesn’t match your anatomy, I don’t recommend the procedure.

Key Benefits

  • Sharp profile
  • Double chin concealment
  • Symmetry

“Women’s and men’s skeletons have different angles. If you don’t work with the anatomy, you can make a woman’s face look masculine. That is why I draw the jawline only after the facial analysis.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is jawline filler suitable for men?

Yes. In men we plan a wider, more angular line, and in women a softer, more continuous one. We set the proportions by the structure of your face.

How long does it take?

15-30 minutes on average. Most of my patients go back to daily life the same day.

Is it painful?

Most of my patients describe a feeling of pressure. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. Where we use a cannula there are fewer entry points, so there is less discomfort.

Will it hide my double chin?

If the look comes from a lack of volume, it improves once the line is defined. If it comes mainly from fat, filler alone isn’t enough, and then we talk about a different approach.

Will it make my face look heavier?

With measured treatment we expect the opposite, because the line becomes sharper. Putting more volume into the area than it needs can widen the lower face. That is why we keep the amount to the plan.

When will I see the final result?

You notice the first effect straight away. The line settles as the swelling goes down, and we wait about two weeks before assessing it.

How long does it last?

The range generally reported is 12-18 months. The jawline moves a lot, so some patients need renewal sooner.

Is it reversible?

Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase if needed. We discuss the product choice and this option at the consultation.
