Skin Rejuvenation

Novuma

Duration15 min Effect6-12 months Sessions1-2 session(s)

What Is It?

The raw material of Novuma is calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). It is a collagen-stimulating, or biostimulating, injection. The calcium particles are delivered inside a gel carrier. The carrier dissolves over time, and the particles aim to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the tissue.

When calcium hydroxyapatite is used in high amounts, it has an effect similar to a filler. We plan Novuma for collagen stimulation. What sets it apart from PLA protocols is the raw material, and this has two consequences. Thanks to the gel carrier, there is a mild sense of support on the day of treatment; PLA has no such early phase. On the other hand, calcium hydroxyapatite cannot be reversed with a dissolving enzyme.

How Is It Done?

In the facial analysis we look at the degree of laxity, the thickness of the skin and the support points. Because the product is aimed at the deep layer, we build the map of injection points accordingly. After a topical anaesthetic cream, we apply it with a cannula or a needle, and the procedure takes about 15 minutes. The reported plan is 1-2 sessions; the number is confirmed after the examination.

Who Is It For?

It suits patients with laxity in the cheeks and along the jaw line, deep lines and reduced tissue support. The neck and the backs of the hands can also be treated. Thin areas such as under the eyes and the lips are not where this product belongs.

Because there is no way to reverse it, we ask in detail about your health history and the products you have had before. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection in the area, uncontrolled immune disease and a history of keloid scarring change the plan. Where sagging is advanced, we also discuss surgical options.

Results & Duration

The mild support you feel in the first days comes from the gel carrier and is temporary. The real response comes with collagen production, on average within two to three months. The reported duration is 6-12 months; it varies with skin structure, the amount applied and the area. The effect is not permanent.

What Is Not Promised

Novuma does not replace a face lift, and where sagging is advanced it does not take up the excess skin. We do not plan it to shape the face the way a filler does or to add volume to one area. Pigmentation and pore appearance are also outside the scope of this treatment.

The calcium hydroxyapatite it contains cannot be reversed with a dissolving enzyme. That is why we plan the amount conservatively from the start. We cannot promise a particular degree of firmness or duration.

Key Benefits

  • Collagen stimulation
  • Tightening
  • Long-term support

“I am often asked which suits which patient, PLA or calcium hydroxyapatite; it is almost a classic exam question. At the congress in Monaco a whole session was spent debating it for hours. Honestly, there is no clear answer, because their effectiveness is very close.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it differ from PLA protocols?

The raw material is different. PLA works with poly-lactic acid, Novuma with calcium hydroxyapatite. In Novuma the gel carrier gives a mild sense of support on the day of treatment.

Is it the same as HarmonyCa?

It is not the same product. HarmonyCa combines hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite in a single product. Novuma has no hyaluronic acid component.

Can the application be reversed?

No. There is no dissolving-enzyme route for calcium hydroxyapatite like the one for hyaluronic acid fillers. That is why we plan the amount conservatively from the start.

When is the result seen?

The collagen response appears on average within two to three months. The mild support in the first days is temporary.
