Nose Filler

Duration15 min Effect12-18 months Sessions1 session(s)

What Is It?

Nose filler uses hyaluronic acid filler to soften irregularities along the bridge of the nose and tidy up the profile line. People know it as a “non-surgical nose job”, but it does a different job. It doesn’t make the nose smaller. It corrects the line by adding filler.

Now, this may sound odd when you first hear it. How can adding volume make a nose look straighter? The answer is in the shadow. Very often the hump you see comes mainly from the hollows above and below the bump on the bridge. When we support those hollows, the line straightens and the profile looks more balanced.

How Is It Done?

We start with a profile analysis. We look together at the line of the bridge, the angle of the tip, the angle between the nose and the upper lip and the overall proportions of your face. We take photographs from the side and the front. At this stage it becomes clear whether filler can meet your expectation. If you want a smaller nose, if you have trouble breathing or if there is a marked deviation, I tell you openly that this is a matter for surgery.

The nose is a delicate area in terms of its blood vessels. So we work with small amounts, in a controlled way and mostly with a cannula. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. We place the product deep, at the points we planned. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes on average. At the end we look at your profile together in the mirror.

Who Is It For?

We offer it to patients who have a mild hump on the bridge, a drooping tip, a small asymmetry or minor irregularities left after surgery, and who don’t want an operation. In patients whose nose points downward, we can make it a little more upturned and shapely. When the expectation is to soften the line, the result usually meets it.

For a patient who wants a smaller nose, has a marked deviation or struggles to breathe, filler doesn’t meet the expectation. In these cases we recommend a surgical assessment. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active infection or inflamed lesion in the area, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease, previous nose surgery or permanent filler all change the plan. We go through these one by one at the examination.

Process & Recovery

  1. Profile analysis

We look together at the line of the bridge, the angle of the tip and your facial proportions. We take photographs from the side and the front. This is where it becomes clear whether filler can meet your expectation.

  2. Treatment day

After the topical anaesthetic cream, we place the product deep, in small amounts and in a controlled way. We mostly use a cannula. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes.

  3. First 48 hours

Mild swelling and tenderness occur in the area, and bruising is possible. We ask you not to wear glasses, not to press on your nose and not to sleep face down. We also advise against heat and strenuous exercise during these days.

  4. First 2 weeks

The swelling goes down and the product settles. The skin of the nose is thin, so what you see in the first days isn’t the final look. We don’t assess the result before this period is over.

  5. Review

We ask you back at the end of the second week. We compare the profile and symmetry with the photographs and plan a very small top-up if needed.

Results & Duration

You see the change in the line during the procedure. The final look becomes clear once the swelling settles, in about two weeks on average.

How long it lasts depends on the product, the amount and your metabolism. The range generally reported for this area is 12-18 months. The nose doesn’t move much. Filler breaks down more slowly here than in most areas and lasts longer in some patients. When the effect fades, we can plan a renewal.

What Is Not Promised

Nose filler adds a little volume to the nose, so it can’t make it smaller. It doesn’t solve breathing problems, marked deviations or shape problems that come from the cartilage. Those are matters for surgery.

We don’t promise a particular profile or duration. In this area too much product widens the nose and spoils the natural look. So we deliberately keep the amount small and, if needed, complete it in a second session. If you are thinking about surgery later on, we should discuss that at the start as well. Some surgeons operate on a nose that has had filler, and some prefer not to.

Key Benefits

  • Non-surgical correction
  • Quick results
  • Natural profile

“The hump a patient sees on the nose is very often the hollow around it. I don’t accept the view that nose filler is a second-best option. When you support the right spot with a very small amount, nose filler can give good results.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Does nose filler make the nose smaller?

No. It corrects the line by adding volume, and making the nose smaller is a job for surgery.

Is it painful?

Most of my patients only describe a feeling of pressure. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand, we mostly work with a cannula, and the procedure is short.

How long does it take?

15-20 minutes on average. You can go back to daily life the same day.

Why is only a small amount used?

Because the nose is delicate in terms of blood vessels and its skin is thin. Too much product widens the nose and makes it look unnatural. Using a little and adding more if needed is the safer order.

When will I see the result?

You see the change in the line straight away. The final look becomes clear once the swelling settles, in about two weeks on average.

How long does it last?

The range generally reported is 12-18 months. Because the nose doesn’t move much, it lasts longer in some patients.

Is it reversible?

Yes, and in the nose this matters even more. If hyaluronic acid was used, it dissolves very well with the enzyme hyaluronidase. When the right amount is given, usually no trace of the filler is left; if some remains, we give a little more enzyme at the review.

I have had nose surgery — is it suitable?

It can be a good option for small irregularities left after surgery. Previous surgery does change the plan, though, and we assess that separately at the examination.
