Temple Filler

Duration30 min Effect12-18 months Sessions1 session(s)

What Is It?

Temple filler means placing hyaluronic acid filler into the hollow between the outer corner of the eye and the hairline. This area is the frame of the face. When the temples are full, the face looks oval. When they hollow, the upper face narrows, the cheekbone looks more prominent than it really is and the area around the eyes looks sharper.

In the mirror my patients mostly look at their cheeks and under-eyes and hardly notice the temples. Yet the reason the face looks tired is often higher up, in the volume lost at the temples. That is why we usually treat the temple as part of the midface plan.

How Is It Done?

First we look at how deep the hollow is, how thick the skin is and how visible the vessels beneath it are. We measure the difference between the two sides. When the hollowing has appeared after weight loss, we also work out how much volume the area can take.

The temple is an area that needs care because of its vessels and nerves. So we mostly work with a cannula, through a limited number of points considered safe. We place the product deep, close to the bone. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes on average. At the end we check the result by comparing the two sides.

Who Is It For?

We offer it to patients who notice hollowing at the temples, whose upper face looks narrowed, or whose face looks drawn after weight loss. When we are planning cheekbone, midface or thread lift treatment, we assess the temples as well.

In patients with very thin skin and visible vessels, the choice of product and the depth need extra care. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection in the area, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease and known allergy to the product change the plan. We go through these one by one at the examination.

Process & Recovery

  1. Facial analysis

We look at the depth of the hollow, the thickness of the skin and how visible the vessels are. We measure the difference between the two sides and work out how much volume the area can take. We take photographs for your record.

  2. Treatment day

After the topical anaesthetic cream, we place the product in the layer close to the bone, mostly with a cannula and through a limited number of safe points. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes.

  3. First 48 hours

Swelling and tenderness occur, and bruising is possible. We ask you not to press on the area, to make sure the arms of your glasses don’t press on your temples, and to stay away from strenuous exercise.

  4. First 2 weeks

The swelling goes down and the product settles. The skin at the temple is thin, so what you see in the first days isn’t the final look.

  5. Review

We ask you back at the end of the second week. We compare the two sides and plan a small top-up if needed.

Results & Duration

You see the hollow fill during the procedure. The final look becomes clear once the swelling settles, in about two weeks on average. When the temples are restored, the upper face widens and the area around the eyes looks softer.

How long it lasts depends on the product, the amount and your metabolism. The range generally reported is 12-18 months. The temple doesn’t move, so filler stays relatively long here. If you are still losing weight, the hollowing can show again.

What Is Not Promised

Temple filler doesn’t replace a facelift. It doesn’t raise a drooping brow or gather up sagging skin. It doesn’t erase fine lines around the eyes and has no effect on skin quality.

We don’t promise a particular look or duration. In this area too much volume makes the temple look puffy. So we limit the amount according to the analysis and, if needed, complete it in a second session. If you are still losing weight, keeping the result depends on that too.

Key Benefits

  • Young appearance
  • Facial frame
  • Facial volume

“Filler is a gel. When it is placed in areas that have shrunk, such as the fat pad of the temple, it can spread a little into the surrounding fat over time with gravity. It doesn’t wander off somewhere else. It stays there, and your body slowly metabolises it.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What does temple filler do?

It supports the hollow between the outer corner of the eye and the hairline. When the area is restored, the upper face widens and the face looks more oval.

Why is a cannula used?

For safety. The temple needs care because of its vessels and nerves. With a cannula we can work through a limited number of safe points and lower the risk of injuring a vessel.

How long does it take?

15-30 minutes on average. You go back to daily life the same day.

Is it painful?

Most of my patients describe a feeling of pressure. We apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand, and we mostly use a cannula.

Will it lift my brow?

Not directly. When the area is supported, the eye area can look softer, but a drooping brow is a separate matter.

When will I see the result?

You notice the change straight away. The final look becomes clear once the swelling settles, in about two weeks on average.

How long does it last?

The range generally reported is 12-18 months. The temple doesn’t move, so filler stays relatively long there.

Will it hollow again if I lose weight?

If you keep losing weight, the hollowing can show again. Keeping the result depends on your weight staying stable, and we talk about this at the examination.
