Underarm Botox

Duration15 min Effect3-6 months Sessions1 session(s)

What Is It?

Underarm Botox temporarily reduces transmission at the nerve endings that stimulate the sweat glands. With less signal, the glands work less and sweating in that area drops noticeably.

The aim here is comfort in everyday life. Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition. It has concrete consequences such as marks on clothing, avoiding social situations and changing clothes several times a day. The treatment affects only the area we treat. Sweating carries on as before in the rest of the body.

How Is It Done?

At the examination we talk about how severe the sweating is, when it started and how it affects your day. I look at whether it is in one area or widespread, and whether another cause lies behind it. If needed, I request tests. We investigate separately any sweating that began later on or affects only one side.

We define the treatment area and divide the underarm into evenly spaced points. With a very fine needle we place small amounts just under the skin. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. There are many injection points, but because we work very superficially the discomfort stays limited. If you like, we apply a topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. You go back to your daily life the same day.

Who Is It For?

Suitable for people whose underarm sweating affects their day, their choice of clothes or their social life. It is a common choice for those who don’t get enough benefit from antiperspirants.

If the sweating started recently, comes with night sweats or affects only one side, we look for the cause first. Those situations may call for a different path. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, neuromuscular disease, active infection at the site and a known allergy to the toxin change the planning. We go over these at the examination, together with the medicines you take.

Process & Recovery

  1. Examination

We talk about the severity of the sweating, when it began and how it affects your day. We look at whether it is widespread and whether there is an underlying cause, and request tests if needed.

  2. Treatment day

We divide the area into evenly spaced points and place small amounts just under the skin. It takes about 15-20 minutes, and you go back to your daily life the same day.

  3. First 24 hours

The injection points may be tender for a short while. The rules for the first day are in the “Aftercare Notes” section of this page.

  4. Days 2-7

Sweating starts to decrease in this period and the effect settles in gradually. Most people see a clear difference by the end of the first week.

  5. Review and renewal

We assess the result at the end of the second week and add a small top-up if needed. When the effect starts to fade, we plan a renewal.

Results & Duration

The effect starts within 2-7 days and becomes clear by the end of the first week. We don’t aim to stop sweating altogether. Our aim is to bring it down to a level that doesn’t make your day harder.

The effect is not permanent. The range generally reported is 3-6 months, and in some people it lasts longer. Transmission at the nerve endings returns over time. In people who renew it regularly, the effect is reported to follow a more predictable course.

What Is Not Promised

The treatment affects only the area we treat. Sweating of the hands, feet or face is a separate matter and is planned separately. It does not upset the body’s overall sweating. So there is no need to worry “Will I be unable to sweat at all?”; the other areas keep working normally.

It does not remove the cause of excessive sweating; it reduces the symptom temporarily. We make no promise about how long the effect will last or that the sweating will stop completely. Underarm odour is related to sweating, but it is a separate matter and this treatment alone may not solve it.

Key Benefits

  • Dry skin
  • Comfort
  • Safe application

“Sweating Botox is one of the treatments I recommend most in the summer months. To me, excessive sweating is a quality-of-life matter. A simple treatment can make everyday life noticeably more comfortable.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my sweating stop completely?

No, we don’t aim to stop it altogether. We try to bring sweating down to a level that doesn’t make your day harder. Most people see a clear difference by the end of the first week.

When does it start working?

Within 2-7 days. It becomes clear by the end of the first week, and we assess the result in the second week.

How long does it last?

The range generally reported is 3-6 months; in some people it lasts longer. When the effect fades, we renew it.

Will another part of my body sweat more?

No. The treatment affects only the area we treat, and sweating elsewhere does not change.

Is it painful?

A little. There are many injection points, but because we work very superficially the discomfort stays limited. If you like, we apply a topical anaesthetic cream beforehand.

Can it be used for hands and feet?

It can, but it is planned separately. I don’t do palm Botox for many people, because it can restrict fine hand movements somewhat. For a musician or someone who works at a computer all day, that matters. We discuss which option suits you at the examination.

Will it solve my odour problem?

It may not solve it on its own. Odour is related to sweating, but the two are different things.

Which situations need separate assessment?

If sweating started recently, comes with night sweats or affects only one side, we look for the cause first. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, neuromuscular disease, active infection at the site and allergy to the toxin are also things we go over at the examination.
